Bible outlining is an excellent tool for unlocking the key lessons of a passage. Here are the key steps:

1. Chop you passage into “idea” chunks.

2. Show how the chunks relate to each other.

3. Identify a unifying theme and relate each main point to the theme.

A. Blessed is the man <= idea chunk 1) who <= let’s learn about the Blessed Man.

Attendance: All full-time interns and full-time staff are expected to attend for the duration of the retreat.

• Part-time interns and part-time staff and associate staff can choose to attend or not, but you’re welcome to come!

Accommodations: The regional office team will reserve hotel accommodations in your name for the evenings of April 29th & April 30th (check-out on the 1st), based on completing your registration through the CRS. If your travel plans differ from these dates or you plan to arrive early/extend your stay, please indicate so on the CRS.

Please arrive by 4pm. You can check-in to your room at the hotel 4pm or after on Friday, April 29th. Please check into your room through the hotel’s front desk. Please eat dinner before coming to the meeting. The meeting begins at 6:45pm.

• You are encouraged to take an extra day as a planning/training day –but, talk to your MTL (using your staff account), or as a vacation day (come with a personal checkbook to pay on-site). Please plan ahead!
• Extra nights are available for a cost of $170 per night, per room for 1 King bed and a cost of $209 per night, per room for 2 Queen beds + 1 pull-out. Please add this expense if you want to arrive early, or stay late. Only one person in your family should pay this fee. If you are arriving more than one day “early” (arrival before 4/28/11) or one day “late” (departure after 5/1/11) please contact indicate on the CRS and contact Michelle at Mich…@uscm.org

Arrival: Please plan to arrive at one of the following airports: Oxnard (OXN, 8 minutes, driving), Santa Barbara (SBA, 1 hr. away, driving), Los Angeles International (LAX, 1 ∏ hrs – 2 ≤ hrs. away, driving), or Ontario (ONT, 2 hrs. away, driving) airport early in the afternoon (12-2pm) on Friday, 4/29. You will want to check-in to the hotel (4pm or after) and eat dinner before returning for the first meeting that evening. Please be at the hotel for the meeting at 6:45pm.

Departure: We will finish programming at 11:45am on Sunday, May 1st. For departing flights, please allow time to eat lunch (not included) and get back to the airport. Once you have confirmed your flight arrangements, please send your supervisor a copy of your itinerary.

Ground Transportation: Please arrange ground transportation to/from the airport according to your flight schedule. Mandalay Bay Embassy Suites does not offer an airport shuttle, but suggests using Roadrunner Shuttle or the Airporter Shuttle.

• The Airporter: ~ $65 roundtrip + tax/tip to LAX

Commuting/What if I can’t go/Moms: There is not an option to commute. Our meeting space is dependent upon people staying at the hotel. All attendees are expected to stay at the hotel for the duration of the retreat.

• Attendance for Moms is mandatory.
• Any special requests are to be directed to your MTL (who then directs them to their lane leaders, Holly Ashman or David Martinelli). ALL EXCEPTIONS NEED TO BE DIRECTED TO HOLLY ASHMAN or DAVID MARTINELLI by Sunday, March 6th (the registration deadline). Please let your MTLs know about any special requests/exceptions ASAP.

Parking: Self-parking is discounted to $8 per car, per day (but prices are subject to change).

Meals – see attached for suggestions of local restaurants

Friday: Dinner is on your own. Come to the meeting having eaten dinner.

Saturday: Breakfast is included, it is provided made-to-order at the hotel restaurant.

• Lunch will be included & provided at a local park
• Dinner will be included & served at the hotel

Sunday: Breakfast is included, it is provided made-to-order at the hotel restaurant.

Cost: To avoid over-, or under-charging you, we will charge your staff accounts the necessary amount in May.

• The costs will most likely be $275-$300 per person. Children will be charged based on the additional cost of meals and overnight space/room type and childcare.
• Registering on time helps us out tremendously and helps us to keep costs low. Please be one of those helpful people!
• IF YOU FAIL TO REGISTER ON OR BEFORE Sunday, March 6th at midnight, YOU WILL BE PENALIZED $50. I’ll use that $ for my upcoming surf trip. Kidding…..

What to Bring: Our hotel is on the beach, check it out: Embassy Suites Mandalay Bay

• Please have a personal credit card for check-in. Your room and included meals will be charged to Campus Crusade, but any incidentals (including parking), won’t be.
• Bring bathing suits, towels, sunscreen, beach activities (Frisbees, etc.). There is also a pool at the hotel. Also, Joe Priola will demonstrate his professional surfing skills…in a speedo no less.
• Each suite (every room there) includes: a refrigerator, microwave, two televisions, two telephones, coffeemaker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board and a well-lit dining/work area.
• Internet is charged per person at $9.95/person (IP address).
• Cash for a tip for your maid.

Attire: The average temperatures in April/May are a low of 50 and a high of 68. Though we’re hoping for sunny, it may be windy and possibly cloudy. We are eating lunch outside. Let’s hope not, but please prepare! (Weather Report)

• Meeting rooms can be chilly, please pack accordingly.
• Casual, jeans and T-shirts are perfectly fine. Board-shorts are fine too….:) If you wear your wetsuit in the meeting just make sure it’s dry.

Childcare

• The cost of bringing your kids will be added based on your room type. Additionally, childcare and meals will need to be added.
• IMPORTANT!!! Due to space issues, we can provide childcare for the first 60 children registered. Last year we had around 60 kids.
• We are in-process of lining up housing (at minimum) during the main meetings, Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday night and Sunday morning.
• Approximate cost for childcare is $45.
• Please register for your child’s meals on the CRS, otherwise they will not be included in the count of meals ordered.
